How do I use Call Waiting?

  1. If you hear a beep and want to end the first call, hang up. Your telephone will immediately ring with the second call.
  2. To answer the second call, press and release the receiver button quickly. The first call will be put on hold and you will be connected to the second call.
  3. To return to the first call, press and release the receiver button again. You can switch back and forth between the two calls as often as you want.

CANCEL CALL WAITING is included with CALL WAITING. If you don’t want to be interrupted by Call Waiting during a call, you may cancel Call Waiting on a call-by-call basis by dialing *70 before making your call. Call Waiting will be automatically restored when you hang up.

How do I use Three Way Calling?

  1. Press and release the receiver button to put your call on “hold”. You will hear three beeps then dial tone.
  2. Dial the third person’s number. You can talk before including the original caller.
  3. To begin the three-way call, press and release the receiver button. All three parties will be on the line. (If the line is busy or there’s no answer, you can return to the original call by pressing and releasing the receiver button.)

Note: If the original party hangs up, you can add another third party by repeating steps 1, 2 & 3. To disconnect the third party, press the receiver button twice. Your line is then free to add a different third party by repeating steps 1, 2 & 3. All parties are disconnected when you hang up.

How do I use Voice Mail?

The following instructions apply to NineStar’s Voice Mail and Voice Mail Plus customers. For a few dollars more, you can receive Voice Mail Plus which contains additional message time and sub- mailboxes. Furthermore you can receive paging and email notification.

Accessing Your Mailbox

From Your Home Phone

  1. Press *98
  2. Wait for prompt
  3. Press # key
  4. Enter your password followed by the # key. Your default password is ’0000′ until you have changed it.

Note: if you have an unpublished telephone number, you must press *82 first and then proceed with the steps above.

From a Different Phone

  1. Dial your exchange plus 4000, for example dial 326-4000 if you live in the Maxwell exchange.
  2. Enter your home phone number (with area code if calling long distance)
  3. When prompted, enter your password followed by the # key. Please remember, your default password is ’0000′ until you change it.

OR

  1. Dial your home phone number (area code first if long distance). When the greeting begins, press the * (star) key.
  2. When prompted, enter your password followed by the # key.

    Main Menu: Press 1 to retrieve messages, Press 7 for current date and time or Press 9 for mailbox setup.

Accessing Your Sub-Mailbox

  1. Follow steps 1 and 3 above.
  2. Enter your sub-mailbox number. If you are the Group Administrator and wish to record a group greeting, press * to access the Group Greeting Menu. A voice prompt will guide you through these steps.
  3. Enter your password, followed by the # key. Your password will be a default code of ’0000′ until you change it.

Main menu: Press 1 to retrieve messages, Press 5 to hear which sub-mailboxes have new messages or Press 9 for mailbox setup.

To Retrieve Messages

Options in message retrieval menu:

  1. Press 1: New Messages
  2. Press 2: Saved Messages
  3. Press *: Return to Main Menu

Listen to messages:

  1. Press 1: Play or replay message
  2. Press 2: Save message and go to next
  3. Press 3: Delete message and go to next
  4. Press 4: Save message as new
  5. Press 5: Reply to a message (optional)
  6. Press 6: Forward message (optional)
  7. Press 7: Skip back three seconds
  8. Press 8: Pause or continue
  9. Press 9: Skip forward three seconds
  10. Press *: Return to the main menu

Mailbox Set-Up

Options in mailbox set-up:

  1. Press 1: Greeting options (you may disregard this step if you choose to use the default greeting)
  2. Press 2: Change password
  3. Press 3: Notification Options (optional)
  4. Press 4: Disable/Enable Auto-Login
  5. Press *: Return to main menu

To change or record your greeting:

  1. Press 9 from the Main Menu for mailbox setup
  2. Press 1: Greeting options
  3. Press 4: Record your greeting
  4. Press #: End recording
  5. Press 1: Listen to greeting
  6. Press 2: Save greeting. Greeting must be saved to be activated.
  7. Press 3: Delete Greeting
  8. Press 4: Re-record greeting, then follow steps 3-7 again
  9. Press *: Return to mailbox set-up

To change your password:

  1. Press 9 from the Main Menu for mailbox setup
  2. Press 2: Change your password
  3. Enter new password, followed by the # key. This password is any series of up to 16 digits you choose. You will be unable to access your mailbox without this password, so be sure to choose one that is easy for you to remember.
  4. To verify, enter your password again, followed by the # key.

How do I use Speed Dial?

To use Speed Dial:

  1. Dial *74 and press # for Speed Calling 8 OR dial *75 and press # for Speed Calling 30.
  2. Select a one-digit code (numbers 2 through 9) for Speed Calling 8. Select a two-digit code (numbers 20 through 49) for Speed Calling 30.
  3. Dial the code you have selected and the complete telephone number it will represent. Be sure to dial the number as you would normally place the call including the Area Code for long distance calls
  4. To call numbers selected for Speed Calling, simply dial the one- or two-digit code you have selected.

How do I use Call Waiting ID?

To Use:

  1. If you hear a beep and want to end the first call hang up. Your telephone will immediately ring with the second call.
  2. To answer the second call, press and release the receiver button quickly. The first call will be put on hold and you will be connected to the second call.
  3. To return to the first call, press and release the receiver button again. You can switch back and forth between the two calls as often as you want.

How do I use Call Forwarding *72?

To Use:

  1. Dial *72, listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial the number that will be accepting your calls. You will hear normal ringing. Call Forwarding is in effect when the party answers. At that time, you can tell them they will be receiving your calls.
  3. If the line is busy, or there is no answer, hang up and repeat the first two steps. You will hear two short tones then ringing. No answer is required to establish Call Forwarding on the second attempt.

To Cancel

Dial *73, press #. You will hear two beeps, then a fast busy signal.

Note: If your calls are forwarded outside of your local calling area, you will be charged the long distance rate for any forwarded calls from your number to the distant number. While calls are being forwarded, you can still make outgoing calls.

How do I use Call Transfer?

  1. Press and release the receiver button to put your call on “hold”. You will hear three beeps then dial tone.
  2. Dial the third person’s number. You can talk before including the original caller.
  3. Press and release the receiver button. All three parties will be on the line. (If the line is busy or there’s no answer, you can return to the original call by pressing and releasing the receiver button.)
  4. Hang up to disconnect from the call so the two parties are joined.

How do I use Distinctive Ringing *61?

Allows you to create a list of important numbers that can be recognized by a special ring. If you have Call Waiting, your Call Waiting calls also have a distinct tone.

Setting Up a List

  1. Dial *61
  2. Press #, dial the number, press #

To Access or Turn Off This Service

Dial *61, voice prompts will inform you if list is on or off. To turn list on or off, dial 3.

How do I use Automatic Recall *69?

Returns calls to the last number that called you, whether you answered the phone or not.

–To Use–

  1. Listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial *69
  3. You will hear the telephone number of your last incoming call. If you want to return the call, press 1. If not, hang up.
  4. If the line is
    * not busy, listen for normal ringing

    * busy, listen for announcement, hang up

  5. The busy line will be dialed for the next .5 hour
  6. You will receive a special callback ring when the line is free.
  7. Pick up the receiver and the number you are calling will ring.

–To Cancel–

Dial *89, then listen for announcement.

How do I use Automatic Callback *66?

Automatically redials the last busy number you dialed.

–To Use–

  1. After a busy signal, hang up. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for the dial tone.
  3. Dial *66.
  4. You will hear an announcement.
  5. You will receive a special callback ring when the line is free.
  6. Pick up the receiver and the number you were calling will ring.
  7. You may receive or make calls while this feature is on.

Dial *86, then listen for announcement.
