Lifeline Program

NineStar Connect and NineStar Communications participate in the Lifeline program. Lifeline is a federal program that provides a monthly discount on voice service or broadband internet service to eligible, low-income families. The program is administered by local telephone companies.

Program Benefits: Lifeline provides a $9.25 discount to eligible households each month. Your household may not receive the Lifeline benefit from more than one company.  For the purpose of Lifeline, a household is an individual or any group of individuals who live together at the same address and share income and expenses.  Eligible households may apply the monthly Lifeline discount to either broadband internet service or phone service but not both.   Lifeline customers also have the option to apply the discount to a service bundle, such as home phone and home internet.  Lifeline customers may not transfer their Lifeline discount to another person even if the other person is eligible.

Eligibility: Consumers that have an income at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines qualify for assistance.

You may also qualify for Lifeline if you, your dependent, or your household is enrolled in one or more of the following assistance programs:

  • Medicaid or Hoosier Healthwise
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly Food Stamps
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance or Section 8
  • Veterans Pension or Survivors Pension


The following conditions apply for Lifeline participation:

  • Telephone service must be listed in your name.
  • Lifeline is available on one telephone line per household.
  • If you or someone in your household has Lifeline on a wireless phone, then you cannot get it on your home phone too.
  • You may not transfer your Lifeline discount to another person, even if he or she qualifies for Lifeline.


In order to qualify for Lifeline discounts for broadband internet services, the service you order from the company must meet minimum service standards:  upload/download speeds of at least 10/1 Mbps and 150 GB of date per month.  Exceptions do apply in limited circumstances.  Please contact the company for details.
